The Vatican held a press conference on May 9, 2025 to announce progress and updates on Jubilee 2025 preparations, which are already well underway.
Jubilee 2025 theme: Pilgrims of Hope
The Vatican Jubilee 2025 theme is “Pilgrims of Hope.” Pope Francis explained the meaning of the Jubilee motto in a letter he wrote to Monsignor Rino Fisichella, who is in charge of organizing the 2025 Holy Year event.
The forthcoming Jubilee can contribute greatly to restoring a climate of hope and trust as a prelude to the renewal and rebirth that we so urgently desire; that is why I have chosen as the motto of the Jubilee, Pilgrims of Hope. This will indeed be the case if we are capable of recovering a sense of universal fraternity and refuse to turn a blind eye to the tragedy of rampant poverty that prevents millions of men, women, young people and children from living in a manner worthy of our human dignity.

Jubilee Year starts in December 2024
Vatican City and the city of Rome are expecting tens of millions of religious pilgrims for the Jubilee Holy Year, which starts in December 2024 and concludes in January 2026. The two city governments are working together along with the Italian national government to prepare to host such a large influx of visitors.
